Description for luxury vehicle 1950 Harley Davidson Hydra Glide E Panhead

1950 Harley Davidson “E” – 61 Cubic Inches, 6.5:1
Compression, Tank Shift, Riviera Blue, Completely Restored!

Background:  After
years of wanting to buy a Panhead, I finally made the decision to seriously
begin searching for one in June of 2015.
I wanted a correctly restored bike retaining all original major components.  Given that I have a bad hip from a sports
injury, I was looking for a 1965 Panhead due to it having an electric
starter.  I searched everywhere for
months, but found nothing that fit my purchase criteria.  I decided to expand my search to any year
Panhead, so I would have one to ride while I searched for the perfect ’65.

In October, I ran across a post on Face Book for a
beautifully restored 1950 Panhead that was local to me.  I contacted the restorer and he and I met one
Sunday in November at the seller’s house to inspect the bike.  It was gorgeous, started on the second kick,
and ran beautifully.  I bought the bike
on the spot for $25,000 US and had the seller deliver it to my house the following
weekend.  I immediately took it to
Bronko’s Cycle in Milton where Brent went over the bike from end to end giving
it a thorough inspection, test ride and making any necessary adjustments.  He found everything to be in excellent shape
with the exception of the rear tire.  I
had him install 2 new Avon Mark II’s and tubes at a cost of $700 US.  I then had the bike professionally appraised which confirmed that the tanks, fenders, emblems, frame, drivetrain etc. were all original with the only know aftermarket parts being the mirror, tires and the NOS period correct Bakelite shifter knob.

In January 2016, I came across an ad for a restored 1965 FLH
in New Jersey – long story short, I bought the bike and that is why I am
selling the 1950 E.  I am happy to share my receipts for the bike and maintenance
with any potential purchaser.

History:  The bike was
delivered new near London, Ontario and was ridden from 1950 to 1960 until it
needed some mechanical repairs that the owner couldn’t afford.  He sold the bike to his mechanic who kept the
bike at his home as is until he eventually passed away and left all of his
bikes and parts to his nephew – an avid motorcycle enthusiast.  In 2010, the nephew hired noted local antique
motorcycle restorer, Jim Carson of Early Times Restorations, to complete a
factory correct restoration.  The bike
was completed in 2011 and ridden approximately 5,500 miles until my purchase in
November 2015.

Description:  This
1950 Harley Davidson “E” Panhead retains its original 61 Cubic Inch Motor,
transmission, tins, frame etc.  It was
torn down to the bare frame and completely rebuilt and restored to factory
correct finishes including the correct shade of 1950 Riviera Blue paint.  It starts, runs and rides beautifully and all
components work as they should.  I
welcome inspections at my home or at a local mechanic of your choice (at your
expense).  I have included a number of
good quality pics and would be happy to take pics of anything else that you
might like.  I love this bike and would be happy to speak with any potential buyers o the telephone.

Shipping:  I know that
some US buyers may be hesitant to consider buying a bike in Canada because they
think that the import process at the border will be difficult.  I used TFX International enclosed vehicle
transport to ship my 1965 up from the US and their broker handled all of the
necessary paperwork for $395.  They can handle the
entire transaction for you and will deliver the bike right to your door with
all the necessary paperwork to register it.
Shipping from New Jersey to my house in Oakville, Ontario (45 minutes from Buffalo, NY) is $425 US.

I had to relist my ad this afternoon to correct the item location.  I apologize for having to cancel the previous bids.

I reserve the right to end the auction early due to the fact that the bike is advertised locally. On May-02-16 at 07:36:15 PDT, seller added the following information:

Some questions were asked over the phone this weekend, so I thought I would also post the answers for others:

The Speedo and dash are original and were professionally restored.
Seat pan is original and restored.
Saddle bags are high dollar reproductions.
There are no brokerage fees if you trailer the bike across the border personally.
I have no problem storing the bike in my garage for a few months after it is paid in full.  It is insured and my garage has a security system.
Please feel free to call and ask any other questions that you might have!
