Description for luxury vehicle 1947 Indian Chief motorcycle

1947 Indian ChiefThis was the year referenced by Polaris Indian for the current Chief series.
Rebuilt approx 4 years ago with no expense spared: Murray Morell crank and much more.
Have since fitted a custom twin-leading shoe front brake (a $2000 upgrade). Factory parts come with it. The upgraded front brake means it can cope with traffic and still look original.
Has premium Ray Drever paint in excellent condition with a couple of minor chips on side panels. Overall has exceptional presentation.
Little use since the rebuild (maybe as much as 30 hours), which is why it's on the market. I've had a lot of fun, but there are way too many motorcycles (including 3 Indians - which is the tip of the motorcycle iceberg) and it's time to trim back the fleet in a big way.
This is a very healthy motorcycle.
Okay, here's the disclosure - its worst feature: If it's left standing for months, a little oil will weep past the valve guides and it will smoke when you start it.
Used semi-regularly, there's no issue.  This bike is easy to start and runs fine. A couple of priming kicks and it will start first or second go from cold. Chassis is in great shape and everything works.
Lots of detail fixes: for example good-quality fresh fuel taps and new fuel/oil tank caps.
No money to spend.
Tyres, chain etc all very good.
Comes with an easily-removed (2 bolts) period-style screen and a few extras.
Would suit someone who wants to use a big classic with no hassles.
Currently on club permit, which is not transferable. Can get a Vic RWC for a local buyer - no use elsewhere. However Vic rules (because of the year) permit this to be passed by a club scrutineer without RWC - your call.
Big strong stock 1200 engine - will cruise at highway speeds without fuss.
It will be a shame to see it go, but it's been put together by experts and deserves to be used and enjoyed. A call to Union Jack Motorcycles in Vic - ask for Phil Pilgrim (previous owner and Iron Indian Assn co-founder) - will reveal its history.
If you want to see it, do so before bidding. Tel 0411 123 059.
