Description for luxury vehicle BSA V twin 19311000cc Barn Find like Brough Sunbeam Vincent AJS Velocette Harley

BSA V Twin 1931 986cc

Two owners from new and completely original.

Rare ..... probably unique

I bought this bike when I was a student, in 1976, and used it every day until I took it off the road in 1984. It has been in dry storage since then, it has been run regularly, and annually painted with oil to preserve it, it is consequently in very good solid original filthy oily condition.

The bike has not covered too many miles as the primary chain is still the original one with BSA stamped on every link. (see picture).

Features include
Exposed speedometer drive gears and cogs, (very Aveling and Barford!!)
Car style hand brake button on front brake lever. On hills the front brake can be locked on and released when the lever is pulled.
Heel operated rear brake, stand on it and the rear wheel locks....... good with sidecars! Not good for the tread if used aggressively at speeds above 25mph!!
Chrome on the petrol tank is still in very good condition considering the bike is 85 years old....... polishes beautifully.
Exposed valve springs part hidden behind alloy covers. They look great when the engine is running.      Total loss oil system, starts by lubricating the engine, then lubes the primary chain, then the rear chain, then the windscreen on the following car !!      Sidecar mounting, I will be selling the sidecar separately on Ebay, it had an original BSA chassis and an original Swallow Sidecar LAUNCH body ..... very pretty!
Built in tank top Lucas wander light, very rare I am told.
Foot boards, a constant foot massage!
Left hand throttle type advance and retard control, great for slow up hill travel, instead of dropping a gear wind the left throttle back and the engine runs slower but retains its power ....
Tank gear change, don't bother with first unless you are into demolishing buildings or ploughing fields, second is the normal take off gear, third (top) will pull more than 75mph with sidecar and caravan!! (I have never actually towed a caravan with this bike, but it is very powerful!!) Top speed is a question of how much you value your life, in a top speed contest the BSA has more guts than I have, but I have seen 80 plus as my eye balls vibrated into a blur!!
Quick release rear wheel, can be removed without disturbing the sprockets and chains. They did an interchangeable sidecar / spare wheel / rear wheel .... on splines,
The battery is a genuine old one, waiting to have the inside replaced with a moderrn core ...

What is needed
The bike is coated in oil and grease and needs a really really good clean .....
It needs a new magneto brush, I have bought one but have misplaced it.....
There is no wiring, this tried to ignite one evening years ago and was removed whilst glowing a pretty red colour, so will need to be replaced, not difficult as it consists mainly of four wires!
I have broken the valve lifter cable so this will need replacing......
The tyres were fitted around 1938 and may not be in the best condition, they hold air however and have a good tread, so may be of use if entering the preservation class!

Things I do not like
The battery carrier is held on with nylock nuts ...... no!! The carrier was removed years ago and the battery carried in the sidecar, luckily the carrier was still with the bike but the bolts were lost.

I would consider a part ex, perhaps a series one or two Morris eight convertible etc. Anything considered?
